When the lights of a garage door opener flashes but the garage door stays open, there could be multiple reasons why this is happening and we would like to explain a couple of the most obvious reasons.
The most common reason for the lights to flash on the garage door opener and the garage door not closing is that the safety reversing sensors or photo electric eyes are misaligned or obstructed; this is a safety feature of the garage door opener. When these photo eyes are properly connected and aligned, the sensor will detect an obstacle in the path of its electronic beam. If any obstruction breaks the light beam while the door is closing, this safety feature kick in and the door will stop and reverse to full open position, and the opener lights will flash ten times.
The second most common reason is that The Lock Button on the wall control may be activated. To deactivate the lock button, just simply press the button to turn this feature off. The light bulb will blink two times. This feature is designed to prompt you that the lock button is activated. When the lock button is ON the garage door opener will work from the wall control but the remote controls are locked out. Your garage door opener has a self diagnostic feature. The LED next to the learn button will flash a number of times, and then pause signifying the potential issue.
NOTE: The garage door can be closed by pressing and holding the Garage Door Control push bar until down travel is completed.
Did you know that a garage door is the largest moving object in most homes, poses safety concerns to you and your family and that garage door manufacturers strongly suggest that you should have your garage door serviced once every 3 years? The garage door opener must also be properly adjusted and maintained for safe operation.
