GARAGE DOOR SAFETY INSPECTION

GarageDoorSafetyJune is recognized as Garage Door Safety month by the International Door Association (IDA) and Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association.  In honor of Garage Door Safety month, here is a 25 point safety check inspection conducted by Worcester Door, a garage door company.  This inspection is conducted by trained technicians for preventive garage door maintenance and will inspect your garage door based on the check list below:

The garage door is often the largest moving object in a home.  Many homeowners overlook the maintenance of a garage door and don’t take the time to periodically inspect the door.  The components of a garage door must be in good working order for the door to operate correctly.

  1. The Control Panels, Remote controls and keyless Entry system.
  2. The Trolley along with the Rails & Chains will be looked at.
  3. Make sure Safety Eyes are operating safely
  4. The opener gears and motor will be checked.
  5. Electrical wiring will be checked
  6. The safety reverse and the limit switch for the garage door
  7. The chains or screws of the opener
  8. The door balance and tension
  9. The garage door springs will be evaluated for rust and breakage
  10. Garage door rollers are key elements of a well functioning garage door
  11. Check for cables that are broken or frayed
  12. If your garage door has safety cables we will check those also
  13. Drums for the cables
  14. Check center bearing if worn or broken
  15. End bearing plates holds a lot of weight and need to be properly secured and fastened.
  16. Check if pulley system is working safely and properly
  17. The Forks
  18. Are the shafts straight and working well
  19. Check hinges and lubricate
  20. Brackets
  21. Check if the garage door tracks are straight and securely fastened
  22. Struts
  23. Spring anchor and torsion center plate
  24. Weather seal to avoid water and snow to enter your garage
  25. Condition of the section/panel of the garage door

It is recommended that by servicing your garage door twice a year, it will help to ensure that your door is operating at peak performance, and it also allows you to make minor adjustments before they become bigger problems costing the home owner future expensive repairs or parts replacement.  However, be aware that some parts of a garage door are under extreme tension and should be serviced by professionals to avoid potential injuries.
