Photo Eyes are sensors that are mounted a few inches off the floor on either side of the garage door and work with the electric door opener. Photo eyes send an invisible beam across the door opening serving as a safety feature. We are Worcester Door can’t list how many times we have seen Photo Eyes malfunction or not work at all just because of something as simple as cobweb build up around the photo eyes. We recommend that you check your photo eyes on a regular basis and clear any debris and cobweb and keep them clear or any obstructions.
Did you know that electric garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993 are required by federal law to be equipped with a reversing mechanism and a photo eyes as additional features of safety to prevent entrapment? If your garage door is equipped with an automatic door opener system and it does not have this feature, replacement of your system is recommended.
